RSNA Staff and Students attendding the NCANA Meeting in Asheville, Sept. 2011
The clinical component for the Nurse Anesthesia Program is conducted concurrently with the graduate program. Didactic course work and estimated clock hours are all presented below.
Academic knowledge is correlated with applied practice experiences which exceed the minimum requirement of the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs. The anesthesia cases include pediatric, obstetrics, geriatrics, open heart, neurology, plastics, otolaryngology, ophthalmology, urology, and orthopedics. Both elective and emergency anesthetics are given. Administration and management of regional techniques are taught.
The program is divided into four semesters and two summers of study. The graduate credit component of the program is completed by May of the second year and the clinical component is finished in August of the second year. The graduate credit component consists of 50 semester hours (SH) which are divided as follows:

Post Master's Certificate Information
The curriculum for students who have already earned a Master of Science in Nursing is the same as above except post master students do not take the 9 SH of Core Courses from the University of North Carolina Greensboro (NUR 610, NUR 602, & NUR 620).
EVALUATION PROCESS
Students receive a letter grade at the end of each semester for each course. Grading is on a 4.0 scale: a student must earn a 3.0 grade point average in both the graduate credit and clinical residency to be eligible for graduation. Examinations in the classroom are given during and upon completion of each course. There will be cause for dismissal if a student makes a grade of B- or below in more than 6 semester hours of course work, has earned a B- or below in any nursing specialty course, or has a GPA that indicates the inability to meet the 3.0 required for graduation.
Daily evaluations for the clinical practicum are completed by the clinical faculty while enrolled in the program. A "B" or above in the clinical practicum and the clinical case management is required throughout the program.
